5 Fall Wardrobe Essentials to Invest In

Fall is most certainly my favorite season for a lot of reasons but mainly because of the outfits. ;)

I know it's still crazy hot outside, but shopping for fall is just gets me excited and used to make going back to work (I worked in a public school with summer's off my first few years out of college) sound like a lot more fun. I can honestly say that I've never regretted buying a good cardigan, jacket, or boot- especially when they're on great sale!

I've rounded up my top 5 must-haves for fall, and all of these particular items are part of the major Nordstrom Anniversary Sale that is going on right now.  I know there's a lot of hype around this sale that may seem overboard, but I truly think these are some of the cutest, high- quality items you can find.  They will all still be available after the sale but for almost double the price, and last year, I kicked myself the whole fall season for not investing in the items I really wanted when they were still within my budget!

Let's take a peek at my top faves:

1. A Wear Everywhere Cardigan

SHOP HERE:

Can you truly ever have too many cardigans? I'm feeling a solid no on that one. ;) I am typically cold all of the time in my house/office so I wear cardigans inside even in the middle of summer. There were sooo many great ones in this sale! This one was my top pick of the sale because it's just so big and comfy, and I feel like I will live in it all fall/winter. It's almost like a substitute for a coat and such a reasonable price right now too! My second cardi pick was this great $31 basic layering cardigan.  This is the type I would wear year-round, and it comes in lots of color options!

2. A Pair of Everyday Flats

SHOP HERE:

I might have gone just a tad crazy with all the gorgeous flats and slides from the sale.  I'm coming away with only 2 pair, but ooohhh how I wanted so many more! It's SO. STINKING. HARD. to find a great pair of flats that are actually comfy enough to wear all day. I've never understood why they are often so uncomfortable, but I've had more blisters from flats than any pair of heels I've ever known. I went with this sleek black pair (although I also really wanted the leopard ;)) that will go with almost all of my work outfits and the cutest snake skin slides

3. A Great-Fitting Pair of Leggings

SHOP HERE:

The thing I most regretted not purchasing last year was a good pair of leggings.  Several months after the sale, I ended up biting the bullet and paying full price for a pair of Zella leggings and haven't regretted it at all! They are almost a year old and still fit like a dream and never budge when I workout in them.  This pair is Spanx so they suck you in a little more than your average legging, and the faux leather makes them versatile enough to dress up as well.  My favorites are Zella and Spanx, but I've linked several other great options I've tried on as well!

4. A Basic Bootie

SHOP HERE:

I absolutely could not pass up these open-toe booties! They are one of the more expensive things I invested in during the sale, but they are really comfortable and will get tons of wear this fall! If you don't have a good pair of closed-toe booties, I definitely recommend snagging a pair! I wore my brown booties from last year's sale almost every day through the fall/winter and plan to wear them tons again this year! I've tried on each pair I linked above, and they're truly all great!

5. The Perfect Layering T-Shirt

SHOP HERE:

I actually bought this long-sleeve striped shirt last year, and it got a crazy amount of wear time. I've even worn it a few times this summer! It's so comfy and the perfect length for wearing with leggings or front tucking with your jeans.  I also bought a short-sleeved version this year, and at $11, I'm considering buying one in every color!

BONUS ITEM: A Moto Jacket

SHOP HERE:

Didn't feel right to write a fall essentials post and not mention a moto jacket! The exact one I'm wearing is a faux seude from last year, but there were so many gorgeous {and affordable!} options in this year's sale! I fell in love with this olive suede jacket and am honestly still considering this $64 faux leather one! Moto jackets are the perfect addition to any fall silhouette- jeans, slacks, dresses, skirts- they instantly make everything more cute! :)
